Challenge

The town of Vestal, NY was celebrating its bicentennial. Vestal has a rich history that very few people are aware of. The client wanted to celebrate the town’s 200-year history with a mural that would attract both locals and tourists to their shopping center. 

Solution

I painted a town mural that has officially put Vestal on the map. The mural attracts tourists who may otherwise have never heard of Vestal. To accurately showcase this city in a mural, I worked closely with the town’s historian to gain a clear understanding of the major landmarks that could be incorporated in the mural design.

I used bold graphics and an abstract color palette to showcase popular landmarks like the Vestal Museum, the Rockefeller Tree, and historic trails in an eye-catching manner. This mural became a landmark that continues to give locals and businesses within the shopping center a sense of pride.
